Tara is a graduate of George Mason University School of Law. She was a quarterfinalist in the Moot Court Competition. She completed a post-degree judicial clerkship for U.S. Magistrate Judge Barry R. Poretz in the Alexandria Division of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.

Tara attended Yale University and graduated with a degree in political science. Additionally, she worked part-time for the Internal Revenue Service in Washington, D.C. She also spent a semester in Madrid, Spain during her junior year.
